Women’s History Month Observance 2018 Recap

Author Jason Irby introduces the 2018 Women’s History Month speakers: Sharon Priest and Kerry Jucas at the March 24 observance event.

“These ladies are two dynamic women of Arkansas history.  We had wonderful presentations and discussion ranging from their family history to their roles in Arkansas culture,  politics, and history.  The audience this year was small and intimate and I wish many more people would’ve been here to participate and enjoy this occasion,” said Irby.

Kerry Jucas is the communications director of the Arkansas Secretary of State office.  Kerry’s grandparents escaped World War II oppression in Lithuania and arrived in the United States by way of Ellis Island in the 1950s.  Kerry’ father was only  2 years old at the time but made his adult home in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Sharon Priest, former mayor of Little Rock and Arkansas Secretary of State, grew up in Canada.  While conducting business between Canada and Arkansas, she met an Arkansas boy, fell in love, and the rest is history.
